Healthcare providers in Title X settings understand that stigma and discrimination that clients encounter can negatively impact STI/HIV prevention and a spectrum of health seeking behaviors.
This webinar presented in collaboration with the Alabama/North Carolina STD/HIV Prevention Training Center, will advance a sexual health approach to STD/HIV prevention services that combines disease prevention strategies with health education in a way that moves from a focus on sickness and disease to one based on prevention and wellness. Healthy sexual and reproductive knowledge, practices, and health care play a critical role in people reaching their potential and community stability. While recommendations for promotion of sexual health are essentially unchanged, providers will learn the advantages of presenting these messages from a positive, “gain-frame” perspective rather than the more traditional, “loss-frame” messaging. These strategies will facilitate decreasing the stigma and discrimination that currently hamper public health messages which promote sexual health.

Key Concepts for Preconception Health & Reproductive Life Plans
March 23, 2012
Family planning nurses, and all care providers taking care of women of childbearing age, should have an understanding of preconception/ interconceptional health for women. As we continue to strive for improvements in infant and maternal mortality, decreases in preterm and low- birth weight infants, the focus for our women should be to prevent illness and complications in pregnancy through wellness and planning. This presentation will look at an overview of preconception health and key features for improving the overall health and wellness of our target population. Included in the training will be an introduction to reproductive life planning.

Human Trafficking: A Family Planning Perspective
September
8, 2011
Human trafficking, a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others, is considered to be one of the fastest growing criminal industries in the world. Victims of human trafficking include children involved in the sex trade, adults age 18 or over who are coerced or deceived into commercial sex acts, and anyone forced into different forms of "labor or services" against their will. Every year, human traffickers generate billions of dollars in profits by victimizing millions of people around the world, and in the United States.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to define human trafficking, identify contemporary issues of human trafficking that involve unequal distribution of human rights and labor practices; and describe the extent of the crime in the Southeast. The training will also provide participants with the tools to identify victim identification and assessment using various scenarios specific to family planning clinics.
Marketing Strategies to Promote Clinical Services
April
1, 2011
Marketing/outreach is a fairly new concept for public health entities. This training will focus on concepts to market family planning clinics to local communities. Specifically, the trainer will detail steps to develop a useful marketing plan, identify target audience(s), implement best techniques for developing and distributing marketing material, and evaluate the plan’s success. Attendees will be provided with cost-effective ways and examples to advertise to intended audiences about family planning services which will encourage more patient visits to the clinic.
Vulnerable (LGBTQ) Populations
February 17, 2011
Family Planning Staff will develop awareness to offer more
equitable, culturally competent care to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender patients in order to make clinics more inclusive and
welcoming. This program will enhance provider knowledge in
addressing potential needs in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender issues; and make patients feel more welcome and safe.
Contraceptive Update
January 7, 2011
In the past 3-5 years
contraceptive technology has provided several new reliable methods.
This training provides Title X personnel with the most up-to-date
information about contraceptives used in family planning clinics.
HIV Integration in Title X
November 18, 2010
In the last several years, HIV integration has
become increasingly important in providing family planning services. Since patients in the Southeast United States are disproportionately
affected by HIV/AIDS, it is increasingly vital that family planning providers integrate HIV services in order to reach more
clinic patients.
This training focused on enhancing knowledge and identifying techniques for including HIV services at various points
in patient health care, such as taking sexual history, providing barrier method contraception, and HIV testing and prevention education.
Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health
September 24, 2010
Family planning clinicians face unique challenges in responding to the emotional and physiological needs of adolescent patients. This training will focus on knowledge needed to enhance a clinician’s ability to address the needs of adolescent patients seeking reproductive health care by understanding adolescent growth and developmental stages.

Streamlining Clinical
Services
June 24, 2010
