The
documents linked below are checklists designed for family planning
providers to help prepare their agencies for compliance with regulations
under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
of 1996. The checklists were developed by The Law Office of Susan
Scheid and Cicatelli Associates Inc. to provide basic guidelines for
assessing agency readiness to comply with the policies. CAI has made
these documents available on this website for public use. We welcome
any feedback you may have in regards to their content and design.

This
checklist is intended to assist your organization in assessing its
readiness to comply with the Administrative Simplification standards
contained in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
of 1996 (HIPAA) that relate to privacy of individually
identifiable health information (Privacy Rule). HIPAAs
Administrative Simplification standards relating to transactions and
code sets and unique identifiers (TCS Rule) are addressed
in a separate checklist. The Security Rule, including the standard
for electronic signatures, is still in the proposal stage. You will
find a brief description of the proposed Security Rule in this document;
a checklist for that rule will be provided at a later date.

This
checklist is intended to assist your organization in assessing its
readiness to comply with the Administrative Simplification standards
contained in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
of 1996 (HIPAA) that relate to electronic transactions
and code sets (TCS Rule). The checklist also contains
a description of the proposed rules relating to unique identifiers
that are to be used in conducting such transactions. HIPAAs
Administrative Simplification standards relating to security and electronic
signatures (Security Rule) and the privacy of individually
identifiable health information (Privacy Rule) are addressed
in separate checklists.
