Engaging Decision Makers
– Part 2
Funded contractors in NYTCP must work with a variety of decision makers in order to mobilize
the community to change social norms regarding tobacco use and to adopt
and implement policies that will support this effort. This second level
training on Engaging Decision Makers will focus on the particular skills
needed to engage a specific decision maker and how to utilize the
decision maker’s interests and concerns to capitalize on the meeting or
interaction. Each training will include a consultant/trainer who
represents the specific decision maker group in order to gain
perspective and skills in engaging this group. The one-day trainings
will focus on one of the following decision makers: Community Based
Organizations (CBOs); MD Office/Clinic Managers; School Administrators,
and Tobacco Retailers. As a result of this training participants will be
able to:
- Examine all of the influencing factors
regarding their targeted decision maker;
- Identify key issues important to this
decision making group;
- Practice engaging the decision maker towards
policy work;
- Demonstrate skills in articulating policy
change initiatives to the decision maker.
Contractors are required to attend one of these
trainings depending on their modality as listed below:
Cessation Centers – MD Office/Clinic
