and TA Faculty
CAI has selected
nationally known faculty with expertise in both chemical
dependency and tobacco control to assist you in integrating tobacco
control policy, procedures and practices:
Caroline Waterman,
MA, LRC, CRC, Director of
Addictions Training and Technical Assistance at Cicatelli Associates
Inc. (CAI) is the RTATC Manager, providing overall management and
oversight of this project. She has over 18 years experience
working with OASAS-licensed programs and other health and human services
agencies. At CAI, Ms. Waterman previously served as manager for Project
InVEST, providing training and TA to OASAS-licensed programs across New
York State to assist in integrating vocational education into substance
abuse treatment. She recently oversaw the advisory group “Integrating
Tobacco Use Interventions into Chemical Dependency Services”. Ms.
Waterman’s specialty is in providing TA on developing and
implementing policies and procedures, and integrating new services
into current practices.
Gricel Arredondo, MS,
Director of the Center for Evidence-Based Interventions at Cicatelli
Associates, is a bi-lingual (English-Spanish) intervention specialist
and national master trainer, with expertise in behavioral health and CDC
evidence-based interventions. She has 16 years experience as a provider
in substance abuse treatment facilities and over 6 years training and TA
experience related to substance abuse and tobacco control. Ms.
Arredondo serves as a trainer and TA provider in CAI’s New York State
Tobacco Control Program. She has been sought out by national and local
organizations to lend her expertise to the development of public health
services and/or programs.
Perry
“Rusty” Chambliss, BA, is Vice President and Director
of Training at CAI. Mr. Chambliss has over 22 years experience
providing training on a wide array of topics, including substance
use-related and tobacco cessation trainings. He also provides TA to
health and human services agencies locally and nationally and develops
innovative curricula and materials in newly emerging fields. Mr.
Chambliss’ dynamic approach to training, human resource development,
and professional expertise enable him to provide training and TA on
a wide variety of topics to all level of staff at provider agencies.
Lisa Currin, LMSW, is currently the Substance Abuse Project
Manager at Seton Health Center for Smoking Cessation. Ms. Currin
manages a grant providing training and technical assistance to substance
abuse providers to incorporate treatment of nicotine dependence into
patient care. Ms. Currin has worked closely with the Tobacco Recovery
Coalition of the Capital Region towards implementing this project. Ms.
Currin has years of experience in Tobacco Control, having worked
previously at the American Cancer Society on Tobacco Control program,
policy and advocacy issues.
Keran Deli, PhD, LPC,
is Vice President and Director of
Curriculum and Distance Learning at CAI. She has over 17 years
experience in the field of mental health, psychological assessment,
counseling, and co-occurring disorders, and over 20 years experience in
providing training and TA in these areas, as well as HIV/AIDS, substance
use, and tobacco control/cessation training. Dr. Deli was also
responsible for developing the training curricula for Integrating
Tobacco Use Policies and Interventions into Chemical Dependence Services
for the NYSDOH Tobacco Control Program. Dr. Deli will lend her
expertise in working with counselors, addictions treatment and
evidence-based interventions to this project.
Elena F. Deutsch,
MPH, serves as Director of
CAI’s Tobacco Control Division and, since 2005, Co- Director of the
statewide Tobacco Control Training Project. She is an experienced
Training/TA Specialist, with over 7 years experience in tobacco control
policy and cessation, and has also co-trained on substance use and
tobacco control/smoking cessation for DHS shelter staff and directors.
Prior to joining CAI, Ms. Deutsch served as the Director of Tobacco
Control at the American Cancer Society. In that capacity she led
trainings for health care providers, community-based organizations and
worksites in implementing smoking cessation at their sites.
Frank Dominelli, DPM, is Vice President and the Director of
the Health Care and the Admissions departments at Odyssey House, an
OASAS licensed chemical dependency treatment center. Dr. Dominelli
oversees the planning, implementation, and management of the Odyssey
House Tobacco Dependence & Treatment Program. He has been a member of
the New York State Partnership for the Prevention and Treatment of
Tobacco Use and Dependence. He is also the principal investigator of
the Department of Health Promising Tobacco Interventions grant
implemented in the outpatient clinic. Additionally, he is a
representative in an interagency committee developed to address issues
surrounding tobacco dependence and treatment of clients.
Michelle Gerka, MS, is CAI's Vice President, Director
of Community Health and Early Childhood. Ms. Gerka has years of
experience in providing health and social service support programs,
education of community-based providers, and in the provision of health
and social service-related trainings. At CAI, Ms. Gerka also oversees
the NYS Tobacco Control Training Program. Ms. Gerka has over 20 years
experience providing training and TA on a wide variety of topics
including substance abuse, women’s health and outreach and prevention
programs. She has been providing training and TA to NYS providers in
the field of tobacco control policy and cessation and community based
interventions.
Arismendi (Tony) Jimenez, MD,
Deputy
Director of Training at CAI, has more than 12 years addictions-related
training and TA experience. Before coming to Cicatelli, he worked in an
OASAS-licensed substance abuse treatment program. More recently, he has
provided training and TA to NYS providers on tobacco control issues.
With a degree in medicine and extensive experience in non-clinical
trainings, Mr. Jimenez can bridge the clinical and non-clinical aspects
of trainings and TA. Mr. Jimenez is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Peggy Keigley,
MA,
is Director for the Seton Health Center
for Smoking Cessation. She manages 4 contracts on tobacco control
through the NYS Tobacco Control Program. As the Director of the
Cessation Center she was involved in developing a coalition and working
with 15 substance abuse agencies to become tobacco-free. Ms. Keigley
has a master’s degree in psychology and she maintained a counseling
practice specializing in treating smoking cessation and addiction
recovery issues. Previously, Ms. Keigley was the Coordinator for the
Tobacco Dependence Program for Glens Falls Hospital. She is author of
the near best seller, Quit & Win the War of Cigarette Withdrawal.
Jeremy King, BS, is a Tobacco Dependence Counselor at Odyssey
House Inc., an OASAS licensed chemical dependency treatment center, as
part of a Department of Health Promising Interventions Grant. Mr. King
has helped to integrate the treatment of Tobacco Dependence into the
day-to-day treatment of the clients at Odyssey House’s outpatient
clinic; this includes assessment for nicotine dependence, the
utilization of the Trans-theoretical Model of Change and Motivational
Interviewing in individual and group settings, and the assessment for
and distribution of Nicotine Replacement Therapies to interested
consumers.
Doris J.
Saintil, MPH,
Program Manager, began her career in public health at the American Cancer Society
providing educational workshops to adults and adolescents around tobacco
use and other cancer-related topics. At Cicatelli Associates Inc she is
a Program Manager and trainer. She supervises various contracts and is
responsible for providing training and capacity-building assistance to
community-based organizations and health departments locally and
nationally. Areas of training expertise include behavioral science
theory, group facilitation skills, tobacco control and smoking
cessation, cultural competency, and outcome evaluation.
Scott Sherman, MD,
MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry and
Interim Chief of the Section of Geriatric Medicine at New York
University School of Medicine. He has been Principal Investigator on 10
smoking cessation grants during the last 10 years. He has written
dozens of scientific publications on smoking cessation and was Co-Chair
of the panel that wrote the 2004 Veterans Administration/Department of
Defense Guidelines for Management of Tobacco Use. From 2002-2006, he was
chair of the group advising the VA nationally on smoking cessation
policy and practice. Dr. Sherman also works with Odyssey House on
implementing tobacco use interventions.
Donna Spencer,
MD, CASAC, is a Senior Tobacco
Dependence Specialist at Odyssey House Inc. where she has spent over two
years developing and integrating treatment services for nicotine
dependent clients. Her work includes assessment for nicotine
dependence, the incorporation of motivational interviewing in the group
and individual processes, and the education of clients and staff on
nicotine replacement therapies (NRT). She has developed a comprehensive
group curriculum addressing various issues associated with tobacco
dependence and has undertaken the training of clinical and
administrative staff members in this area.
Melanie
Steilen, RN, BSN, ACRN, is Senior Clinical Trainer, Director
of Nursing Education and Co-Director of the Clinical Division at CAI.
Her training expertise includes programs such as Behavior Change
Theory, Stigma and Discrimination; Cultural Competency, Substance
Use and HIV/AIDS and recently, Integration of Buprenorphine in
Office Based Settings. Working with CAI’s international division,
she has assisted in the development of a Home Based Care Program for
People living with HIV/AIDS and other debilitating illnesses in
Guyana, South America. Ms. Steilen uses her expertise in
nursing and public health to provide training and TA for both
clinical and non-clinical audiences.
John Tavolacci, MSW, CASAC, is the Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer, at Odyssey House. Mr. Tavolacci has more
than 22 years residential and outpatient experience in chemical
dependence treatment, and 16 years experience in training mangers and
supervisory staff on chemical dependence. Prior to joining Odyssey
House, Mr. Tavolacci was employed at Samaritan Village, Inspirit
Services, Inc., NDRI, Inc. and Outreach Development Corporation, Inc.
Mr. Tavolacci has overseen the implementation of tobacco control
policies at Odyssey House, and has years of experience providing
training and TA in the fields of chemical dependency and tobacco
control.
Cornell
Wrisby, MSW,
is the Director of Community Education Projects at Cicatelli
Associates Inc. Ms. Wrisby has over 6 years experience
providing training at the community and individual level and has
provided TA on a local and national level to program such as Ryan
White Care Act Programs, COBRA Case Management Programs and other
community based organizations. The focus of the TA was program
development, supervision, development of policy and procedures, and
tracking systems.. She has expertise in a variety of program
administration areas, such as program coordination, budgets,
supervision, department oversight, program development, technical
assistance and organization of case management programs.
