CONFERENCE GOAL

To promote HIV prevention through integrating National HIV/AIDS Prevention Strategies in Title X Family Planning programs.

CONFERENCE HISTORY

Since 2001 the Office of Family Planning (OPA), with funds from the Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) and Title X Appropriations, has funded HIV/AIDS Prevention Integration projects to a select number of Title X service grantees. The purpose of these funds is to expand the availability of on-site HIV testing, and HIV-related prevention and referral services integrated with family planning services. This Conference will bring together representatives from all the HIV Prevention Integration projects to share their successes related to implementing HIV testing in family planning programs during the past eight years of this project. In addition to informational presentations and skills-building workshops, time will be allotted for networking and small group meetings and discussions.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

  • To orient new grantees to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and project  expectations

  • To describe how the Title X Programs is implementing NHAS goals and actions steps through our HIV Prevention efforts

  • To discuss how our accomplishments, outcomes, and lessons learned over the three cycles of this project enhance identification of HIV infection and linkages to care for family planning clients

  • To review project data and discuss the impact of CDC recommendations for routine HIV testing in an effort to increase the number of family planning clients that know their HIV status

  • To identify Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) strategies for improving services in Title X clinics

  • To strengthen partnerships and linkages among the HIV Prevention projects and grantees in each region, and nationally to synergize and maximize resources within their communities

TARGET AUDIENCE

This is an invitation-only conference, and space is limited. It is OPA's expectation that up to two people will attend from each of the funded project sites, along with up to two people from the sponsoring grantee agency.  Participation of the Title X Regional Training Centers and OPHS Regional Office Family Planning staff is also encouraged.
