Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Facts

Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) is the most commonly reported sexually transmitted infection in the United States; with an estimated 3-4 million new infections occurring each year.

Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrheae) is another common sexually transmitted infection; approximately 650,000 new cases of gonorrhea occur in the Unites States each year.

Untreated, up to 40% of women with chlamydia or gonorrhea will develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).  PID can lead to infertility and potentially fatal tubal (ectopic) pregnancy.
