Cultural
Competency
Cultural competency has been an integral part of all of CAI's training programs since its inception. Recent research has demonstrated that many underserved populations lack trust in their health care providers or feel disrespected by providers and associated staff. Often this dissatisfaction can be rooted in cultural and ethnic differences and misunderstandings. CAI's training curriculum is designed to
- increase
awareness and appreciation of the cultural backgrounds
of others and oneself.
- identify
barriers to achieving cultural competence in the delivery
of clinical services.
- increase
recognition of the negative impact of false assumptions
and stereotyping on effective service delivery.
- develop
more effective responses to encounters with co-workers
and patients who have different values and/or cultures.
Cultural
