The 12th Annual Adolescent Health Institute provides adolescent stakeholders throughout New Jersey the opportunity to focus on new information and resources as they relate to the many issues facing our youth.

As a result of this training, participants will have an enhanced understanding of the following:

  • Adolescent male reproductive health
  • Preconception counseling for adolescents
  • Effective contraceptive methods for adolescents
  • Teens, technology, and sex
  • Preventing teen pregnancy among older teens

Title X Region II Family Planning Conference
October 18–20, 2010
Princeton, NJ

This three-day conference was designed to provide family planning agencies with an opportunity to examine promising practices in the areas of preconception counseling, performance management and quality improvement, male reproductive health services, adolescent pregnancy prevention, and the implications of health care reform on family planning agencies. Panel presentations, plenary sessions, and workshops focused on increasing skills in managing family planning services. Objectives included:

  • Discuss some of the key issues facing family planning

  • Examine the issues of the emerging OPA Priority on Preconception Counseling

  • Develop strategies for providing male services

  • Explore the key issues in serving adolescent clients

  • Examine the many facets to performance management and quality improvement

  • Explore the impact of health care reform on family planning services

11th ANNUAL ADOLESCENT HEALTH INSTITUTE:
Exploring the Challenges Facing Youth Today

November 13, 2009
East Windsor, NJ

 

The 11th Annual Adolescent Health Institute provided adolescent health stakeholders throughout New Jersey the opportunity to focus on new information and resources as they relate to the many issues facing our youth. It was also a valuable opportunity for professionals to network with their colleagues and share up-to-date information. Participants gained important skills to incorporate into their work with this hard-to-reach population.
 

The training focused on:

  • Anxiety in adolescence

  • Domestic violence exposure

  • Sexually transmitted infections

  • Sexual violence and youth resiliency

Clinical Issues in Family Planning
May 13, 2009

The purpose of this conference was to provide current, evidence-based clinical updates for family planning clinicians serving diverse patient populations. The featured keynote speaker was Sharon Schnare, FNP, CNM, MSN, FAANP, Educator, Consultant and Clinical Instructor from the Department of Family and Child Nursing at the University of Washington, School of Nursing.

Topics included:

  • Contraceptive management of the medically complex patient

  • Providing male services

  • Performing the challenging pelvic exam

  • Diagnosing and managing herpes simplex virus
