Technical Assistance Projects
Current technical assistance services:
Open Access Implementation
How long does it take your
patients to get an appointment with their provider? Research
shows that long wait times (i.e., the time between when a
patient schedules an appointment and the date of the
appointment) contribute to poor health-related outcomes,
missed appointments, low patient satisfaction, high
attrition rates, and are a contributing factor in costly
emergency room visits.
Open Access successfully
addresses these issues. This approach revolves around a
scheduling system that offers a patient an appointment with
his or her provider on the day that he or she requests it.
Implementing Open Access
involves a paradigm shift in the way clinics operate; it is
a highly involved, data-driven process, and ultimately
requires clinics to restructure systems, policies, and
procedures in order to support same day appointment
availability. CAI provides on-site training and technical
assistance tailored to your agency and its needs to help you
implement Open Access.
We will assist your clinic
in the implementation of Open Access through:
- Developing
multidisciplinary project teams
- Assessing clinic
readiness for Open Access
- Designing data
collection systems

Patient Flow Analysis
If your agency isn't
working at peak efficiency, you may be losing revenue.
Patient Flow Analysis (PFA) is a technique a clinic can use
to improve efficiency and ultimately increase revenue.
PFA involves tracking the
flow of patients and staff within a provider organization,
collecting data, and processing it with a unique computer
application. CAI 's expert staff analyzes the results and
works with the agency to develop a plan, based on the
analysis, to lessen patient wait times, eliminate
bottlenecks in organizational process, improve staff and
provider efficiency, and increase revenues.
Since 1977, CAI has
conducted PFA, a product of the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, in a wide range of health care settings,
from large inner-city hospital clinics, to small rural
family planning centers. CAI's clients include: the William
F. Ryan Center , Sunset Park Family Health Center , Planned
Parenthood Mid Hudson Valley and Livingston County
Department of Health.

Advisory Board Development
CAI
offers technical assistance to agencies interested in developing
their Consumer Advisory Boards (CABs). The goals of most
CABs are to provide community perspective from consumers,
and advise agency staff on its programs or projects. CAI
provides training for staff on how to facilitate CAB development
and strengthen the relationship between agency staff and
the CAB. CAI also provides training for CAB members so that
they may have the skills and knowledge needed to participate
in the CAB in the fullest and most efficient manner. Hands-on
assistance to CABs during the initial start-up period is
an example of the type of TA that CAI offers. Currently,
CAI is assisting in CAB development at Housing Works and
Care for the Homeless.
