Legal and Cultural Issues Affecting HIV Service Delivery to Immigrants, NYC

May 2003 - February 2004
Evaluation conducted with NY LINK international and NYC-based participants indicated a need for training HIV service providers on developing culturally and linguistically appropriate services for immigrants. In response, CAI developed a two-day workshop entitled "Legal and Cultural Issues Affecting HIV Service Delivery to Immigrants". In total, eight trainings were offered in New York City between May 2003 - February 2004 through funding by the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute and the New York City HIV Health and Human Services Planning Council. The response was incredibly positive with a total of 199 participants and a large number of people requesting a renewal of the series. Participants reported that the information and tools obtained through the training will help them be more sensitive to their immigrant clients' needs in order to better serve them and make appropriate referrals.
