February and November 2003 Programs
CAI conducted two successful New York LINK training and resource
exchange programs in February and in New York City. A total of XX
international participants formed multidisciplinary teams of
physicians, nurses and PWHAs from Barbados, Costa Rica, Dominican
Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica,
Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia and Trinidad &
Tobago. The February 2003 program addressed the multidisciplinary
approach to treatment and adherence and the November 2003 program
focused on two main skills-building components: HIV testing and
counseling and assessing readiness for treatment. Over 120 individuals
from NYC agencies participated in site visits and additional exchange
activities such as a networking reception, a Speak Out session on
Traditional Beliefs and HIV, a clinical consult exchange session and a
PWHA advocacy session. The NY LINK is co-sponsored by the New York
State Department of Health AIDS Institute, the New York City HIV
Health and Human Services Planning Council, the US Department of State
Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs and UNAIDS.

CAI conducted two successful New York
LINK training and resource exchange programs in April 2004 and March
2005. The April 2004 program focused on two main skills-building
components: HIV testing and counseling and assessing readiness for
treatment and the March 2005 program addressed topics included
HIV/AIDS Program Implementation and Management, Rapid Testing and
Secondary Prevention. A total of XX international participants formed
multidisciplinary teams of program directors, physicians, nurses and
PWHAs from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru. Over 120 individuals from NYC
agencies participated in site visits and additional exchange

intended for NY LINK international and NYC-based participants that we
hope will foster and facilitate ongoing communication and exchange of
news and resources. This distance learning tool includes a discussion
board facilitated by the CAI training team within which monthly “hot
topics” such as rapid testing have been discussed. These discussions
led to the implementation of our first Virtual Classroom for NY LINK
participants. The NY LINK is co-sponsored by the New York State
Department of Health AIDS Institute, the New York City HIV Health and
Human Services Planning Council, the US Department of State Bureau of
Cultural and Educational Affairs and UNAIDS.
