PLWHA Leadership
Many people diagnosed with HIV find it
difficult to access healthcare, or to adhere to HIV treatments and
medications. Others may not know what to do, or how to find out more
information about available services. The use of peers or buddies is
an effective strategy to support help PLWHAs access appropriate
services. PLWHA can take on a leadership role and serve as a bridge
between the client and HIV services.
CAI developed a PLWHA leadership
capacity building program with the goal of working with NGOs to
develop multidisciplinary teams that utilize PLWHA in the provision of
services as enhanced outreach workers, navigators, and mentors in
order to assist NGOs to reach most at risk populations (MARPS).
Through this program we provide:
- a series of trainings where PLWHA
learn to become peers and perform enhanced outreach, navigation and
referral tasks, and
- technical assistance to NGOs/FBOs to
help them develop peer programs, and integrate PLWHA onto their
staff.
