UNAIDS funded CAI International to conduct two trainings in
Costa Rica in December 2007 to respond to the first area of their
National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS: Strengthening organization and
management in governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in
the fight against HIV/AIDS. CAI facilitated training for members of the
National Congress on HIV/AIDS (CONASIDA) from December 10th
to 11th, 2007 with the overarching goal of strengthening the
capacity of the members in terms of management, political will and
advocacy in their role as the national body responsible for recommending
HIV policy to the Minister of Health. Eighteen members of CONASIDA
attended the training, with representation from the Line Ministries of
the Government of Costa Rica, civil society, and the University of Costa
Rica. CAI also facilitated training for 29 members of the national
network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from December 12th
to 14th, 2007 to strengthen their capacities in project
planning and administration, including and monitoring and evaluation.
These skills will be used by the NGOs in writing proposals for Costa
Rica’s Round 8 proposal to the Global Fund.
