HIV Testing and Counseling Goal: To provide participants with information about delivery of HIV testing services in the context of routine patient and client care, including HIV pre- and post-test counseling sessions, informed consent, HIV reporting, domestic violence screening, partner and contact notification programs and HIV confidentiality law. Objectives: · List benefits and barriers to having a HIV antibody test. · Describe the process of HIV antibody testing and define anonymous and confidential testing options. · Explain the major provisions and the application of confidentiality law as it pertains to HIV testing and counseling. · Describe and demonstrate methods of harm reduction for reducing risk for HIV transmission. · Identify the required elements of pre-test and post-test counseling sessions · Practice pre-test and post-test counseling via role play. · Describe the elements of a partner notification plan and the domestic violence screening protocol.
