Legal and Cultural Issues Affecting HIV Service Delivery to Immigrants Goal: To increase the capacity of HIV health and social services providers to reach and serve HIV-positive immigrants in New York City. Objectives: · Review basic immigration law concepts. · Discuss immigration law as relevant to HIV. · Review public benefits and entitlements available to HIV-positive immigrants in New York City. · Highlight reporting requirements and appropriate referrals. · Articulate client’s needs and special considerations in working with HIV+ immigrants. · Discuss cultural competency issues in delivering HIV services to immigrant populations. · Learn to plan and adapt successful strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate in working with immigrant populations.
