HIV Special Needs Plans (SNPs)

Direct Patient Education and Provider Training

Cicatelli Associates Inc. is working with the New York Sate Department of Health AIDS Institute and the New York City Department of Health to help education of consumers and providers about the HIV Special Needs Plans for Medicaid recipients living with HIV/AIDS.

The HIV Special Needs Plans are special health plans for people on Medicaid living with HIV/AIDS and their children up to age nineteen whether or not they have HIV or AIDS. The doctors, nurses and other care providers who participate in HIV SNPs understand the special needs facing people living with HIV/AIDS. SNPs providers understand that consumers may need help with:

• taking medication
• alcohol and substance abuse problems
• talking to loved ones about HIV

All HIV SNPs primary care providers are "HIV specialists." This means that these providers have special training to treat people with HIV/AIDS.

Cicatelli Associates Inc. has provided training to consumers with the purpose of educating them about the SNPs plans and developing the skills to make health care choices that are right for them and their families.

Cicatelli Associates Inc. are also educating providers on issues pertinent to SNPs care delivery including confidentiality and sensitivity to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Technical Assistance services are available to community based organizations whose clients may be eligible for HIV SNPs.
