Each community health worker in New York State possesses
a certain amount of knowledge and skills necessary to provide
case-management services to high-risk pregnant and parenting
women. This eight-day training is designed to provide participants
with the necessary skills to maximize their work with families.
This training will provide participants with a wide array

assessment, goal planning, making appropriate referrals,
and working with difficult and challenging family situations.
As
a result of this training participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate
techniques for interviewing and assessment.
- List
the primary and secondary goals of the Community Health
Worker Program.
- Execute
short and long term goals that are client-centered.
- Develop
trusting relationships with clients.
- Demonstrate
skills in strength-based assessments.
- Understand
the components of behavior change theory.
- Practice
strategies for assessing domestic violence, child abuse
and substance abuse issues with families.
- Demonstrate
culturally competent approaches to case management with
families.
