New
York Linking Information Networking Knowledge (NY LINK) CAI
offers other programs related to HIV/AIDS.
The
NY LINK is a technology transfer and resource exchange project
that joins together people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and
health care providers from the Caribbean, Central America,
Mexico, and New York City. So far over 200 representatives
from 18 countries have participated in the NY LINK, working
together with U.S.-based counterparts to share and develop
HIV/AIDS programmatic strategies on risk reduction and behavior
change, HIV counseling and testing, leadership development
of PLWHA, treatment and adherence, and the development and
maintenance of multidisciplinary teams to implement these
programs.
Multidisciplinary
teams, composed of at least a physician, a nurse, and two
PLWHAs, participate in training of trainer (TOT) programs
to increase their capacity to develop and implement training
programs in-country. Multidisciplinary teams also participate
in a series of twinning activities during which physicians
and nurses are matched with HIV/AIDS clinical experts, and
PLWHA twin with New York City community-based organizations,
PLWHA networks, and other community leaders. As a result
of these twinning activities, New York-based organizations
gain new strategies and insights on improving their outreach
and services to immigrant populations, and visitors increase
their capacity to offer training programs in their home
countries.
The
NY LINK program is supported by the New York State Department
of Health AIDS Institute, the New York City Mayor's Office
on AIDS Policy Coordination, New York Community Trust, UNAIDS,
and UN Volunteers.
