Peer
Training Institute (PTI)
CAI
offers other programs related to Adolescence
and HIV/AIDS.
|
After 9 prosperous
years,
the Peer Training Institute (PTI)
has come to an end.
|
|
The PTI offered training
and support for individuals who wish to be trained as
HIV/AIDS prevention peer educators. This includes but is
not limited to —teens; adults; parents; women; people who
are incarcerated; substance abusers; African-Americans;
Caribbeans; Asian and Pacific Islanders; and Latino
communities. PTI was a collaboration of Cicatelli
Associates Inc. (CAI) and eight Community Based
Organizations (CBOs) that represent a variety of populations
and communities affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic within New
York City. The goal of PTI was to increase the supply of
trained, skilled, motivated and culturally-competent HIV
prevention peer educators so that they may provide HIV
prevention interventions to persons with targeted risk
behaviors as prioritized by the Risk Targeted Model (RTM) of
the New York City Prevention Planning Group.
Cicatelli Associates Inc. is proud of the
many accomplishments of the PTI program. Key
successes over the years include:
- Graduation of over 850 adult, and
adolescent peer educators from communities most affected
by HIV and AIDS, including but not limited to
African-Americans, youth, MSMs, incarcerated adults, and
current/ former substance users.
- Provision of thousands of HIV/AIDS
educational workshops to the community
- Completion of employability trainings
to PTI graduates in various areas such as resume writing,
basic computer literacy, and interviewing skills
- Successfully responding to emerging
issues in HIV prevention and offering free training to
CBOs around Hepatitis C transmission, Crystal
Methamphetamines and HIV, and RAPID testing.
- Coordination of Best Practices in Peer
Education Conference in 2004, attended by over 200 service
providers
CAI would like to thank our funders, the
NYCDOHMH for their direction over the years. We also commend
the eight
collaborating
agencies,
AIDS Service Center of NYC,
Asian and Pacific Islander
Coalition on HIV/AIDS (APICHA), Community Health Action of
Staten Island, Fortune Society, Health People,
Henry Street Settlement, Safe Horizon- Street Works
Project, and the William F. Ryan Community Health Center
on their successes in providing guidance and support to the
peer educators and for working together to make the program
an innovative, exciting, and rewarding opportunity for many
in New York City community.
