In
2005, as part of its ongoing commitment to bringing new
and emerging information to providers, CAI launched the
Center for Integrative Wellness (CIW). CAI recognizes that
growing numbers of Americans are turning to complementary
and alternative therapies and that an increasing number
of providers want to offer health care based on an integrated
approach to mind, body, and spirit. The National Institutes
of Health has also taken note of this trend, establishing
the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
(CAM) to research therapies and expand knowledge in a field
that has become known as integrative medicine or wellness.
Mission
The
mission of CIW is to promote the understanding and application
of compassionate, holistic approaches to health and well-being
that integrate traditional and non-traditional philosophies
and practices. CIW seeks to provide multidisciplinary exchange,
training, and technical assistance toward the integration
of mind-body therapies. It also promotes client-centered
complementary approaches to personal well-being and the
professional work environment. Additionally, CIW seeks to
provide consumer-oriented education and resource information.
CIW focuses on evidence-based CAM therapies that have been
found to be safe and effective.
