| Adolescence
is a time of extraordinary physical and psycho-social
development impacted on by factors such as family dynamics,
peer influences, substance use, environmental issues,
violence, and abuse. During the past 20 years, CAI has
worked closely with family planning agencies, youth
serving agencies, and the New York State Division for
Youth to develop programs that assist providers to effectively
reach adolescents. Programs include outreach as well
as trainings and conferences on adolescent health issues.

A
large proportion of the programs CAI has developed for adolescents
utilize train-the-trainer or peer educator approaches because
of their particular effectiveness in disseminating health
related information to young people. The Peer
Training Institute (PTI) at CAI has a job
bank that assists young people in finding positions as peer
educators.
