Description:

Responding to Trauma: Assessment and Treatment Skills for Primary Care Physicians applies disaster and trauma psychiatry research and interventions to a primary care setting, so primary care physicians, pediatricians and OB-GYNs can effectively address mental health issues affecting their patients, including PTSD, depression, anxiety and substance use. Funded by the September 11th Fund, this course aspires to train primary care providers to assess and treat patients who have been affected by the September 11th terrorist attacks or other traumatic events.

This web-based training was developed by Cicatelli Associates Inc. (CAI), and is based on a curriculum collaboratively developed by CAI, Washington University School of Medicine, and a team of experts working in the field of trauma and primary care.

Price:

There is no registration fee for this course. Please note, however, that a nominal fee is charged for CMEs, which are optional.

Objectives:
  • Determine the importance of the role of primary care providers in assessing mental health reactions of traumatic events.
  • Recognize the impact of traumatic events & mental health reactions.
  • Use the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria to identify mental health diagnosis.
  • Develop appropriate treatment interventions based on diagnosis.
  • Develop front-line disaster psychiatric management skills for adults, children, geriatrics, and OB-GYN patients.
