This
course is designed to provide family planning clinics with the knowledge to integrate HIV prevention
education and other HIV-related services into routine
exams for all women. Recognizing that any woman could be at risk for
HIV and providing the necessary education and testing for all women
is the focus of this course. |

however, that a
$10
certificate fee will be charged for nursing contact hours,
which are optional. |

- Describe
major epidemiological trends regarding HIV in women in the United
States and the relevant conclusions that can be drawn from them.

- Explain
how HIV can—and cannot—be transmitted from person
to person, including how HIV infects a host cell, and discuss
transmission issues specific to women. (Transmission)
- Work
with clients to develop individualized risk reduction plans. (Risk
Reduction)

- Introduction—course

- Epidemiology—statistics
regarding HIV occurrence and transmission in American women; conclusions
based on these statistics.
- Transmission—how
HIV infects a host cell; how it is (and is not) transmitted from
person to person; women-specific transmission issues.
- Risk
Reduction—working
with patients to develop individualized HIV risk reduction plans.

practices; any clinicians who provide care for women. |
