The HIV/AIDS Mental Health Training and Technical Assistance programs provide training and technical assistance for Ryan White Part B Mental Health providers throughout New York State.

Overview

HIV/AIDS Mental Health Training and Technical Assistance

Cicatelli Associates Inc. (CAI) is providing Training and Technical Assistance (TA) throughout New York State for the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute Mental Health Care initiative for Persons with HIV/AIDS (PWHA). The goals of this project are to:

Increase the knowledge and skills of advanced mental health (MH) providers on the latest advances in medical, behavioral, and legal issues in HIV and MH, including evidence-based practices.

Increase PWHA and community provider knowledge and understanding of the signs and symptoms of common MH problems, as well as the importance of MH to overall health and wellness. It is also to reduce the stigma around mental illness and increase PWHAs' ability to care for their own mental health and the mental health of others.

Build regional networks of providers to increase collaboration and share successes and challenges in providing care to PWHAs.

Through this project, CAI will provide training and professional development to advanced MH providers, and community psycho-education forums and trainings to PWHA consumers and community providers.

Training and Professional Development

CAI provides training and TA to mental health (MH) providers throughout the state through face-to-face trainings, webinars, online learning programs and conference calls. These programs are designed to meet the needs and challenges of advanced MH clinicians working with PWHAs including psychologists, social workers, counselors, therapists, psychiatric nurses, and others.

Community Psychoeducation

CAI also provides community forums and training to community providers and PWHA consumers. The topics offered are based on identified needs and the feedback received from participants at last year’s community psycheducational forums. Provider forums are designed for all providers in New York who are involved in the healthcare of PWHAs including mental health professionals, primary care professionals, substance abuse counselors, case workers, and others. The consumer forums are designed specifically to meet the needs of the PWHA health care consumer.
